About the Doctor: Joy Lam Independent Doctor of Optometry at Site for Sore Eyes
Joy Lam, an Independent Doctor of Optometry. Lam, a Houston native, earned her bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin. Her passion for patient care blossomed while working alongside optometrists during her college years, which led her to pursue a career dedicated to improving vision and eye health. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry.
Lam’s own personal struggle with dry eyes has fueled her dedication to helping others find relief. She provides services in advanced therapies such as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and TearCare to manage dry eye. Lam is also passionate about myopia control, holding certifications in MiSight and Orthokeratology (CRT) lenses to help slow the progression of nearsightedness in children—driven by her desire to protect the vision of future generations.
In addition to dry eye and myopia management, Lam provides comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, and management of eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. She proudly serves patients in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and surrounding cities.
With a holistic approach to care, Lam customizes treatments to fit each patient’s unique needs, always focusing on long-term eye health. Patients appreciate her thoughtful and personalized care, built on a foundation of innovative treatments and cutting-edge technology.
Outside of work, Lam loves traveling and creating lasting memories with her husband and two young sons. She’s also passionate about personal fitness, staying energized through pilates and boot camp classes.

About the Doctor: Dr. Shireen Haghshenas Independent Doctor of Optometry at Site for Sore Eyes
Dr. Shireen Haghshenas is a Bay Area native, born and raised in the South Bay. She graduated from high school in Saratoga, CA, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Science with a focus on neuroscience from UC Davis, graduating with honors. Following this, she obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from UC Berkeley. She has completed externships at the Stanford Byers Eye Institute, San Francisco VA Medical Center, and Hayward Wellness Center.
In addition to providing routine eye exams, Dr. Shireen offers a range of services aimed at enhancing and preserving her patients’ eye health. With extensive experience in specialty contact lenses, she is committed to helping her patients achieve optimal vision tailored to their lifestyles. She is also certified in MiSight and Orthokeratology, therapies designed to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness). Additionally, Dr. Shireen is passionate about dry eye management and recognizes the importance of personalized treatment plans, particularly given the commonality of dry eye in today’s digital environment. She is certified to manage various ocular diseases, and is committed to enhancing the quality of life for her patients with binocular vision disorders.
Dr. Shireen is a member of the American Optometric Association and California Optometric Association, and can perform optometric exams in English, Farsi, and Spanish. In her leisure time, Dr. Shireen enjoys hiking, discovering new dining spots, traveling, and spending quality time with friends and family.
